I guess the only thing that will cause an argument quicker than discussing politics is talking about religion. Alan Creech recently laid out some of his core beliefs in a couple of posts entitled assumptions one, assumptions two, and then a response to the criticism of those two posts, assume this. To understand what this is all about you really need to read all three posts and all of the comments. Being a graduate of Evelyn Woods I was able to do this in about 1.5 minutes (just kidding!). I guess this is the kind of argument that causes unbelievers to think that Christians are nuts, bigots, or whatever.
We would do well to follow this dictum from Christian peacemakers, "In Essentials, Unity; in Non-essentials, Liberty; in All Things, Charity." I read the posts that Alan writes frequently. He strikes me as a person who is, to the best of his ability, following hard after Jesus Christ. I respect his "assumptions" because I know he hasn't come to them easily or without some pain. So, for all of us who now "see through a glass darkly," I pray that we will have "charity" in our dealings with one another especially in the light of the recent criticisms of the "emerging church". We have had the pre-criticism articles, the criticism, and now the responses by some of the leading "voices" in the emerging church. Jordon Cooper remarks on the "emerging church" as a threat in this month's issue.
There are a number of excellent articles in this month's issue. As always next-wave depends upon the generosity of our contributors. Blessings! |
